How many eggs (called a clutch) do Galapagos tortoises lay at a time?
Did you know?
2 - 16 eggs are laid in a nest that has been dug into sandy ground and then covered over with leaves and soil. The gestation period is 100 - 200 days. The young dig their way out once they have hatched. Their gender can be determined at 15 years of age. They reach maturity at 20 - 25 years old and their full adult size when they are 40 years old.
Which animal lays eggs with no shells?
Did you know?
Frogs, toads, newts and other amphibians lay their eggs in water. The eggs do not have a hard shell. Instead, they are laid in a mass with the texture of jello.
What type of penguin only lays one egg at a time rather than two?
Did you know?
Most penguin species lay two eggs per breeding season and incubate in a nest for warmth. The emperor and king penguins are the exception, which only lay one. The emperor penguins are also even more unique, as the male will do the entire incubation period while the king penguins split the duties between the male and female.
True or False : The nest temperature of crocodile eggs determine the gender of the offspring ?
Did you know?
When a crocodile's nest temperature is above 93.2 Fahrenheit, androgenic hormones form inside the egg. This results in male offspring. Lower temperatures do not produce these hormones, and the embryos remain female. So, a nest on a sunny riverbank will likely produce male crocodiles, while a shady nest produces females.
