How many eggs (called a clutch) do tortoises lay at a time?
Did you know?
A typical clutch from a wild female is 4-8 eggs, but tortoises in human care tend to grow larger and may lay 12 or more. Usual is 6-10. Eggs are hard-shelled, slightly oblong, dull white, and almost the size of ping-pong balls. After laying, the female carefully covers eggs using her hind legs.
Which animal lays eggs with no shells?
Did you know?
Frogs, toads, newts and other amphibians lay their eggs in water. The eggs do not have a hard shell. Instead, they are laid in a mass with the texture of jello.
What type of penguin only lays one egg at a time rather than two?
Did you know?
After mating, the female emperor or king penguin will lay a single egg. All other species of penguins lay two eggs. The two parents will take turns holding the eggs between their legs for warmth in a nest. The one exception is the emperor penguin. The female of this species will place the egg on the male's feet to keep warm in his fat folds while she goes out and hunts for several weeks.
True or False : The nest temperature of crocodile eggs determine the gender of the offspring ?
Did you know?
When a crocodile's nest temperature is above 93.2 Fahrenheit, androgenic hormones form inside the egg. This results in male offspring. Lower temperatures do not produce these hormones, and the embryos remain female. So, a nest on a sunny riverbank will likely produce male crocodiles, while a shady nest produces females.
